Sponsor A Sanctuary Horse

As we celebrate our 10th year in rescue, we have decided to focus on our sanctuary horses!  Drifter’s Hearts of Hope has rescued over 735 horses over the years and our priority has been to find each horse the perfect, forever home. However, occasionally a horse comes along whose best interests are to stay here with us…protected. We are committed to care for each of our sanctuary horses for the rest of their lives and could use your help to do so!

Why do we sanctuary horses?  There are a few reasons…

Some of them, such as Batman and Tequila, have been adopted and returned 3 times at no fault of their own. Some, such as LuLuLemon and Mijenta, are mostly unhandled with fear of humans (likely due to the way they have been treated in the past) but are such kind horses. Gunnison arrived traumatized with whip marks and burns covering his body. Cedar has been used hard in her prior life and whilst shouldn’t be ridden, she has a lot of life left in her and deserves a good retirement. Snickerdoodle…well, this guy is just Snickerdoodle… we have tried to adopt him out but he makes it very clear that THIS is his home. He brings comic relief to the herd. All of them have earned their right for a peaceful, safe life with no risk of neglect or abuse ever again.
We are actively looking for a few amazing and generous supporters to help us make it financially possible to provide sanctuary to our herd.

We are looking for sponsors!

A sponsor would make an annual donation to DHOH in support of the sanctuary horse of their choice. That donation will go directly to the feed and care of that specific horse. Our goal is to secure a sponsor for each one of the sanctuary horses we care for here at our rescue. As a thank you for your generous support, we invite you to join us at the rescue for a professional photo shoot with the horse you choose to sponsor!

Our average sanctuary horse costs us $2,000 a year for feed, hoof care and medications. Check out the horses in our sanctuary herd and to choose the one you would like to sponsor!  We would be so very grateful for your help and support and we know it will mean the absolute world to the horse you choose! We cannot wait to have you out for your professional photo shoot! If you choose Snickerdoodle, we encourage you to bring your sense of humor with you when you come!

If you have any questions about sponsoring or if you would like to sponsor a particular horse, please e-mail us at [email protected]

A New Chapter Begins

Horse rescue is the most rewarding, humbling, challenging, and impactful (unpaid) job any of us have ever had. We have absolutely loved getting to know hundreds of rescue horses, hundreds of adopters, and thousands of supporters. The horses, volunteers, adopters and supporters have been the highlights of every day. It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we are pivoting our organization’s mission and focus. After 10 incredible years of dedicated service to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses, we are now shifting focus to only those horses already in our sanctuary herd.

We are immensely proud of the work we have accomplished since 2014. Thanks to the unwavering support of our volunteers, donors and partners, we have been able to rescue over 735 horses from uncertain fate. Together we have provided them with a second chance at life and a chance for a forever home. The countless success stories and happy endings are a testament to our collective dedication and love for horses. We must also thank Steve Strachan for donating the use of the most amazing property and ranch that allowed us to save so many horses, we could never have done that without him!

As we begin the process of pivoting our operations, our primary focus is on adopting out the rest of the horses currently in our care and caring for our sanctuary herd. In the future, if you need to rehome a DHOH graduate, please reach out to Colorado Horse Rescue at [email protected].

CHR has promised their commitment to our horses for the foreseeable future. As we’ve already announced, the Annie Project is in fabulous hands with CHR. We thank CHR so much for their support aswe transition – we have full faith in their ability to love, support and protect our horses as we did.

While the new intake chapter is coming to an end, we still need your help! We are looking for a few amazing and generous sponsors to make it financially possible for us to provide sanctuary to our herd. These sweet souls have earned their right to a peaceful, safe life with no risk of neglect or abuse ever again. We’ll also be hosting fundraisers and events to support these horses, and hope you’ll join us!

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us over the years. Your generosity, time, and compassion have made a significant impact and we are forever grateful! Thank you for being a part of our journey and for helping us make a difference in the lives of so many horses! This all wouldn’t have been possible without each and every single one of you. We encourage our supporters to continue advocating for horse welfare and to lend their support to other organizations that share our mission.

If you have any questions or if there’s any way we can help you, please reach out at [email protected]. We’ll always be here to support and network with other rescues and horse owners as well... just in a different capacity – our love and commitment to at-risk horses will never change.

With a very heartfelt thank you,
The DHOH Team
