Cabo and soon to be foal are doing very well. Bella and Jean went to pay them a visit and waited for the baby to kick. We are so excited to have a little one joining the DHOH rescue herd soon!

The DHOH members hosted a tack sale in April at Big R in Elizabeth that had a fantastic turn out! Our many thanks to the supporters and friends of DHOH who came out to help these kids raise some money for their rescue horses and save more precious lives!
She's back. With great anticipation, many of our supporters have been awaiting the stunning Island's Angel to be evaluated for adoption. Island is doing great under saddle, and we believe her to be an excellent hunter-jumper candidate. She's been added to the adoption gallery. Check back often as her status will be updated soon when she's ready for a forever home! (Below: Island's before photo at the feedlot. We can't believe how far this horse has come!) Meet "Bear". We saved this guy from getting on the slaughter truck this morning! 15 year old (ish), ranch broke gelding. In need of some TLC! Stay tuned for updates on DHOH "Bear"...named in memory of our late "Logie Bear". He will be added to the Adoption Gallery once he's healthy and completed evaluation.
We are having another fundraising party!!! This time we will be making horse hair bracelets! bring some of your favorite horse's tail (otherwise we have plenty of horses that we can steal some tail from!) and make a beautiful, forever keepsake! For those of you that knew and loved Hope, I have some of her tail we can use
Saturday, March 28th from 6-8:30 at The Funny Farm! $40 per person. We will have wine and cake! We are getting ready for our next tack sale!
The DHOH kids will be selling tack to raise money for our horses on April 25th at Big R in Elizabeth, from 10 am til 4 pm! We will have lots of great stuff!! If anyone is interested in donating any Horsie items that you no longer use, we would love to take them! We are a registered non-profit and can give you a receipt for your donation! Please contact us to drop off any donations to the tack sale. Thanks for supporting our kids and our horses! Mid-February, we've been busy hauling in new rescues from the feed lot. These four beauties are Clifford, Cabo, Lucky, and Top Gun. All four horses are very sweet natured. We believe that Clifford and Lucky are "kid safe" horses. They are very broke. All of these wonderful horses are now safe, and will meet up with us at the Funny Farm after quarantine. Stay tuned for updates as these four make their way over to our adoption gallery soon! TOP GUN: His name was "Robert" on the feedlot. This cutie patootie has been saved and will join us at DHOH after quarantine! A big 16.1 hand TB cross (we think)... A total love bug who followed us around begging to be saved. His new name? TOP GUN! CLIFFORD: This sweet boy is in his mid-teens and we believe he's "kid safe". Clifford is a gorgeous, tall grey gelding. We are so excited he's going to be joining us at the Farm after quarantine. LUCKY: A beautiful paint gelding with a lovely personality, joined Clifford when coming off the lot and down to the Elizabeth area for quarantine. Lucky is in his mid-teens and we believe he is a "kid safe" horse. He will be evaluated for adoption with his pals after quarantine so check back with us! Pebbles and Bam Bam, our two miniature mare rescues from February 2015, have found their way to new homes! These cuties will be missed but we are thrilled for their new families. The kids are in the news again! Check out this article by the Prairie Times regarding the work that's been done over the past several months. Very exciting! Thank you for your support. We couldn't do this without you.
Spirit was rescued from impending slaughter late 2014 and has been in training with her foster family for several months. She is on the smaller side, at 14hh, but is quite muscular and moves well. This little mare is smart and is going places! She's full of potential and will do anything asked of her. Willing, intelligent, friendly, and fun to work with. Spirit is also possibly the soundest horse we've ever worked with. No issues. She loads, ties, and trailers. She is available for adoption through Drifters Hearts of Hope. Adoption fee $1500 to approved home only
We've had quite an eventful February! With rescue horses saying farewell to join their new forever families, some new members of the DHOH family have joined us at the Funny Farm. These little Valentines were brought home from the feedlot.
Cabo, Pebbles and Bam Bam joined us for Valentine's Day and Bam Bam's adoption is already pending! We believe Cabo is a thoroughbred cross. She's a looker, and we have high hopes for her as we evaluate her at the Farm prior to her becoming available for adoption. In addition to all of the hustle and bustle around the farm this February, Drifter, our mascot and inspiration got a special Valentine's Day visit. Watch here: http://flipagram.com/f/QsMhMEc8qo Last weekend we said goodbye to our sweet mare Hope. Hope was our first rescue and the heart of our project. She had been struggling with Cushings Disease, and an infection believed to be in her sinus cavity, and was truly a tough little mare. The DHOH Members were especially attached to Hope, and spent time with her regularly at the Funny Farm. Hope was the center of many of our events out at the Farm. She will never be forgotten. We thank our many friends for support in helping us care for and treat Hope over the past year. Watch this heartwarming video of the volunteers and kids painting the new Shelter at the Funny Farm. |
