Equine Adoption Application

    DHOH Equine Adoption Application

Drifter's Hearts of Hope requires that this application be completed in full and submitted prior to the approval of adoption of any equine. Submission of an application does not guarantee adoption of any animal to any person regardless of the date of submission, previous conversations with Drifter's Hearts of Hope staff or representatives, or previous knowledge of the animal. Drifter's Hearts of Hope reserves the right to place animals in its care into adoptive homes at its sole and absolute discretion.

    The Adoption Process
The adoption application is a part of the adoption process. Once you submit your adoption application, a DHOH team member will reach out to you to begin the rest of the adoption process. The adoption process also includes a riding evaluation, home check, reference check, the signing of an adoption contract and payment of our adoption fee. Due to requiring a riding evaluation and home check, we rarely adopt horses out of state. Additional steps may be required for approval. All adopters must be 18 years of age or older. It is understood that adults may wish to adopt for persons under the age of 18. If the adoption is approved, the adult will be fully responsible for the care of the adopted equine.

Also please note that an appointment does not reserve the horse you are interested in. Potential adopters should assume the horse they are interested in will be shown to others and available for adoption to other parties until an adoption deposit has been paid or an adoption contract has been signed and the adoption fee has been paid. If we deem the rider and horse a good fit, a deposit of $200 can be placed on the horse as a 'holding fee' for up to two weeks, meaning the horse will not be shown to any other applicants until the home inspection has been passed and paperwork is complete. This deposit will go towards the adoption fee. If DHOH declines the adoption for any circumstance, the potential adopter will receive the $200 deposit back. If the potential adopter declines the adoption for any circumstance, the potential adopter will not receive the $200 deposit back.

Adoption FAQs can be viewed here.

    Our Animals Are Our Clients
Our job is to find each of our animals the right home. Rejected applications are not necessarily a reflection on the applicant's home, but rather based on the determination that the home is not the right match.

Please note if all the fields in this form are not filled out the application will not go through.

    Personal Information

*Please note, most horses can comfortably carry up to 225lbs.  Riders weighing more than that will generally need a draft horse.

    Equine Experience

    Facility or Boarding Information

    If kept on your property:
*Please note, we do require at least one 3 sided shelter on property
*Please note, for yearlings and younger we typically do not accept barbed wire fencing
*Please note, we do not allow only 1 equine on property. A horse adopted from DHOH must have at least 1 other horse for companionship (other livestock does not count).
    * Please note, we do not allow horses to leave in a straight load trailer. Horses must be transported in a slant-load or stock type trailer. If you do not have a trailer, we have transport services that we can refer you to.
If the equine is boarded on someone else's property:
*Please note we do not allow DHOH horses to be boarded at self-care boarding facilities.
